According to witnesses, Elliott slammed a Ford pickup truck into the rear of a Palm Tran bus at 18th Avenue North and North Dixie Highway. The witnesses said Elliott did not make any attempt to stop before the crash.
Elliott, 25, then jumped out of the passenger door and took off running, telling a witness he was going to get his insurance card, the report said.
Because of injuries sustained in the crash, Elliott only managed to get about 50 yards from the crash scene when he was taken into custody by Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies.
The pickup was confirmed as stolen and reported to be involved in several hit-and-run crashes throughout the county, the report said.
Elliott told deputies the truck belonged to a friend. Asked why his friend would report it stolen, Elliott said “maybe because he borrowed it too long,” the report said.
