A Lantana woman is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail after she allegedly carjacked another woman Sunday night in Boynton Beach, according to Boynton Beach police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater.
The victim walked into the Walmart at 3200 Old Boynton Road around 10:30 p.m. before realizing she forgot her wallet and returned to her car. As she was getting her wallet out of a 2011 BMW, the victim was approached by Euvenslada Lopez, who stuck an object into the woman’s side. Lopez warned the woman not to move and implied she had a gun, Slater said.
The victim ran toward the store entrance and screamed for help. Lopez, 24, jumped into the woman’s BMW and sped out of the parking lot, Slater said.
Police spotted Lopez on the Interstate 95 exit at Boynton Beach Boulevard and gave chase, Slater said. Because of severe weather and unsafe driving conditions, the chase was called off after a short time.
Lantana police located the BMW at 320 Pine St. and arrested Lopez.
Records show that Lopez was arrested Oct. 3 by PBSO and faced charges of grand auto theft and driving with a suspended driver’s license, but the state attorney’s office chose not to file those charges on Dec. 9.
