A West Palm Beach man is facing charges that he made obscene and harassing phone calls and threatened to hurt a physically-disabled man, according to an arrest report.
James William Philyaw is facing a charge of aggravated stalking and is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
The victim, a 56-year-old Boynton Beach man, called law enforcement on Oct. 12 and reported receiving threatening phone calls from Philyaw, 47. A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy warned Philyaw to discontinue calling the man, the report said.
On Nov. 23, the victim contacted PBSO again and advised that Philyaw had called him several times that morning and left threatening voicemails. In one of the calls, Philyaw asks the victim to detail “his intentions” regarding a mutual female friend, the report said.
Several of the messages threaten physical violence. “I will gut you,” Philyaw warns in one and states “I’m going to cripple you for life,” in another.
The report states that the victim is physically disabled but does not give any further details.
When PBSO contacted him about the messages, Philyaw responded that “he did not care” what the deputy did about the issue, the report said.
It’s unclear why Philyaw was not arrested until Tuesday.
